The Story of Andrei & Mia
In 2015, two 12-year-olds from different worlds met in the magical Blackpool Winter Gardens for what would be their first try-out. Andrei had just arrived from Romania and didn't speak much English, while Mia, a rising young dancer from Manchester, had no idea her future partner was about to enter her life. However, as soon as they took their first steps together, they sensed something magical was happening. It was truly a perfect match. The connection was instant, their steps seamless, as if they had been dancing together for years. Their parents couldn't believe it, even their coach turned to them and said, "You have to make this happen. They could go really far together."
That moment changed everything. Within weeks, Andrei had made the life-changing decision to leave his family in Romania and move to the UK in pursuit of their shared dream. Meanwhile, Mia made a sacrifice of her own, giving up her bedroom so that Andrei could have a place to stay with her family, ensuring they could train together every day. Their lives became entirely devoted to dance, pushing themselves beyond limits to make this partnership work.
The first goal? To compete at the UK Closed National Championship in just eight weeks. With no expectations, only passion and determination, they stepped onto the floor for the first time as a team—and shocked everyone by winning both the Ballroom and Latin titles.
Six months later, they found themselves on an even bigger stage—the U14 World Championship in Paris. Dancing round after round, they advanced all the way to the final. After they danced the final, they stood on the floor, waiting for the results, everything they had sacrificed, every moment of hard work, led to this. Then, it happened:
